Summary

Introduction: Spinal hemangiomas and vascular malformations are rare but clinically significant entities. Their differential diagnosis is often challenging, with imaging modalities (MRI, CT, angiography) and subsequent multidisciplinary collaboration playing a crucial role. Case report: We present a case of a 45-year-old woman with a vascular malformation of the paraspinal region. Initial MRI performed at another university hospital revealed a suspected vascular lesion at the thoracic spine level. The patient underwent embolization, which was followed by acute–onset paraplegia. This case illustrates the importance of accurate diagnosis of vascular lesions, which requires close interdisciplinary cooperation. Differentiating hemangiomas from other vascular malformations is essential for selecting optimal therapy and preventing irreversible neurological damage. Conclusion: A multidisciplinary approach combined with advanced imaging and interventional methods is a key to successful diagnosis and treatment of complex vascular malformations.
